Transport Planner

Job Description

One of Ireland’s manufacturing success stories, our client is a fast paced FMCG company with a global customer base. Due to continued growth they are seeking an experienced Transport Planner to plan transportation from their manufacturing site in Drogheda.

The successful Transport Planner will oversee delivery from container bookings, port arrival, receipt at the 3PL warehouses and delivery to customer sites. The Transport Planner will ensure demand and capacity are aligned and service levels are achieved. While this is an operational role, the transport planner will oversee preferred partners for the business that support fulfilment of its’ strategic objectives.

Responsibilities:

• Responsible for ocean, road and rail freight procurement
• File import and export clearance
• Create tenders (Request for proposal, request for quotation and contract award)
• Effective planning & scheduling of containers, taking action to eliminate risks such as demurrage charges at port and communicate accordingly
• Issue forecasts to transport patterns of container loads to safeguard ample capacity to meet business requirements
• Routine meetings with Distribution manager to ensure containers are pulled as planned to match bookings
• Analyse freight costs for accuracy and upload to procurement express system
• Logging of transport non-conformance on Sales Force and submitting any applicable insurance claims
• Ensure export documentation is compliant with customs requirements and regulations
• Liaise with 3PL Distribution centres in the event of issue resolution on inbound loads or additional capacity required
• Establish transport KPIs and score card for transport partners
• Lead monthly / quarterly business reviews with transport partners and drive continuous improvement initiatives
• Facilitate the development of service level agreements and contracts liaising with Supply Chain management, Legal and procurement
• Validate customer vendor manuals and ensure that freight solution complies with requirements on packaging, labelling, lead-time etc.
• Support Business Transportation planning and ERP implementation project

Criteria:

• 3+ years experience in transport/logistics role within FMCG / pharma / fast paced manufacturing sector
• Extensive experience working with transport providers
• Experience developing commercial contracts and service level agreements
• Experience with customs import/export procedures and shipments overseas and exports documentation compliance
• Familiar with incoterms
• Excellent communication skills
• Customer first attitude
• Highly organised with attention to detail
• Strong analytical skills and problem solving ability

Salary is in the region of €40-50k plus an excellent package including pension and bonus scheme.
